Bennett School for Girls – Millbrook, New York
Built as a luxury hotel in 1890, the Bennett School for Girls purchased the property in 1907 and turned it into a school for the rich and privileged.
The course of study was a six-year plan with four years of high school and two years of college courses – until the early 20th century. That’s when it switched its course of study to a junior college
The all-girl’s school began having problems in the early ’70s when most of the country’s colleges were co-ed. Bennett tried to restructure and adapt to the changes, but it was too little, too late, and Bennett College closed its doors in 1978.
