The Wyckoff House: The Oldest Building in NYC.
The Wyckoff House is the oldest building in NYC. Here’s how it looked in 1922 — 270 years after it was built.
In the 1650s Pieter Claesen moved into this house located in Nieuw Amersfoort on a stream leading into Jamaica Bay. It is believed to be the oldest standing house in New York State. Claesens’ name was anglicized to Wyckoff after the British took control in 1664. The photo on the right is how the house looks today in Canarsie. Courtesy Library of Congress.
